Rev. Fr. Andrew H. Mahalares
Dean of the Cathedral
Father Andrew was born and raised in Peabody, MA. After high school he entered Hellenic College and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1969 with a double major in Greek and History and a minor in English. He continued his studies at Holy Cross Graduate School of Theology and graduated in 1973 with a Master of Divinity Degree. Since graduation Father Andrew has pursued classes in the Psychology of Youth and also of the Aging.
Father Andrew and Presvytera Alva were married in June of 1971. Presvytera Alva passed away in October of 2003, just two weeks after her 51st birthday.
He was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on January 28th of 1972. He was ordained to Holy Priesthood on August 6th of 1972, just before beginning his last year of graduate school. This August 6th will mark Father Andrews 35th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood.
Father Andrew and Presvytera Alva were blessed with two daughters. Presvytera Vicki, the eldest, is married to Father Timothy Pavlatos and they serve the Saint George Church in Eugene, Oregon. They have seven children, the last one born on March 29th of this year.
Sarah is Fathers second daughter who also lives in Eugene, Oregon is a Phlebomomist and is engaged to be married in October of this year.
Father Andrew served in the Metropolis of Denver for over eight years, six of which were as Dean of the Cathedral in Salt Lake City, Utah and also as Vicar for Utah, Idaho, Montana and Rock Springs, Wyoming for the Metropolis of Denver.
Father Andrew has served in the Metropolis of Boston for seventeen years.
He served for three years as the President of the Metropolis of Boston Clergy Brotherhood, concluding his service in that position in May of this year.
Father Andrew has served as Dean of Saint George Cathedral since August of 2005.
